Recouvrance
an unarmed topsail schooner
1/50th scale plans

Constructed wihin the scope of the « bateaux des cotes de France » project initiated by the magazine Chasse-Marée within the great maritime festival « Brest 92 », the construction of Recouvrance was certainly one of the most ambitious of all the projects that were submitted.
After some initial investigations and considerable hesitations, the research soon pointed to a either a beautiful schooner or a small, easy to fit-out brig.
The choice was then directed to the plans of a splendid schooner-of-war designed from plans of the IRIS-class drawn by the engineer Hubert in 1817 and well-known thanks to detailed reports by her commanding officers about the sailing qualities, tuning-up and sea-going capabilities of these fast double topsail, 25-meter schooners capable of a 10 knot speed under 440 sqm of sail.
Recouvrance was launched on July 14, 1992 during the first great maritime festival at Brest, before tens of thousands of spectators that came to enjoy this unique spectacle.
