VELOX
A schooner-yacht (1875)

Initially, Velox was named Zemajteij. She was built from plans by Jacques Augustin Normand and launched in1875. Without ever participating in a yacht-race, Velox entered the legend thanks to her history and her remarkable nautical qualities. More than 40 meters long, she was one of the largest cruising schooners in the world and was able to reach speeds of over 14 knots. Her successive owners also contributed to her fame but upon the death of the last one, the only buyer that could be found was a wrecker.
A model of Velox is shown at the Paris Musée de la Marine.
