Le Jouet des Flots
Cutter from Carantec (1920)
Le Jouet des Flots was built by Jean Paury, Master Carpenter in
Carantec, (French Brittany), in March 1920 for fishing in Morlaix bay.
The northern coast line of Brittany is swept by strong winds and has strong tidal currents but has shallow harbours which require the shoring of or propping up small crafts.
Carantec cutters were adapted to the specific requirements of their individual owners. Nowadays they are essentially used as pleasure boats by owners fond of old sails and wishing to retain the sights of the past.
