La Marie-Jeanne - tuna fishing smack (1908)
This handsome vessel is typical of the tuna boats with multicoloured
sails which made the sights of Concarneau harbour but who have since
disappeared, replaced by motor boats.
The hull is gracefully shaped, as the tuna boat must be fast, and very
seaworthy. She is Dundee rigged, with a main mast and a jigger. At the
foot of the mainmast, fishing rods are set which are lowered when tuna
have been spotted.
The drawing’s scale is large, and allows the construction of either a cabinet model or a sailing model. In the case of a cabinet model one can reduce further the scale to 1/75 and still enjoy a graceful model. The construction of this model is not particularly difficult and can be recommended even for beginning model makers.
