Newfoundland cod fishing vessel (1925)

Built in 1925 in St.Malo, sailed from La Houle (Cancale)

These vessels are reminiscent of the long and faraway cod fishing campaigns described in the book “Fishermen from Iceland” by Pierre Loti.
Unfortunately these vessels from the harbors of Fécamp, St.Malo, and Paimpol, have gradually disappeared, replaced by trawlers with much higher productivity and on which life is less gruelling.

This elegant model is that of one of the last cod fishing vessel with sails, rigged as a three masted schooner. The green hull with yellow rubbing strakes, white roofs and the lower parts of the masts make for a very attractive model.
The sails are dark brown in colour, and strike out on the model; but all sails should not be represented unfurled, because the model would be overly crowded, and the interesting features of the rigging concealed.
