Le Kurun
Ocean cruise yacht (1948)

Built on the design of the naval architect Dervin by the Croisic yard, the Kurun was launched February 26, 1948. She sails September 19, 1949 for a round the world voyage with Jean Yves le Tourmelin at the helm and a mate who quits in Fedala. He is replaced until Tahiti from where Le Tourmelin continues alone from February 1951 onwards. The circumnavigation ends after three years on July 7 1952, and the Kurun returns to Le Croisic after exclusively sail navigation during which, thanks to his experience, Le Tourmelin never incurred any serious incident. In 1955 the Kurun sails for the Antilles and then returns to Le Croisic. One can truly say that the Kurun was the forefather and inspiration of the modern French sailing school.
