• Jeanne d'Arc (helicopter carrier)

La Jeanne d'Arc
helicopter carrier and Naval Academy school ship (1961)

Since its inception the Naval Academy’s applied training school has been housed on three vessels carrying the Jeanne d’Arc name: the first was an armoured cruiser (1912-1928) who saw brilliant action off the Dardanelles, the second was a specially designed cruiser active from 1931 to 1964 (also a AAMM monograph.

The third Jeanne d’Arc was built to be both a school ship and a helicopter carrier. The anti submarine capacity of the fleet as well as amphibious support to landing actions was thus enhanced. When not used for action, the helicopter hangar can be used as a locale for training.
