L'Etoile - topsail schooner (1932)

Together with her sister ship the Belle Poule, l’Etoile was built in Fécamp by the Normandy Yards to be used as sailing annexes for the French Navy Academy. These vessels, drawn after the famous schooners from Paimpol, have an excellent seaworthiness and are swift on the water. They are both based in Brest, and, after surviving World War II, they generally sail together off the coasts of Brittany with a crew of midshipmen from the Naval Academy.
Their speed can reach 7 to 10 knots, are very nimble ships thanks to the excellent design of their rigging and are a remarkable school for midshipmen to hone their sailing skills.
