PATRON FRANCOIS HERVIS - Lifeboat (1961)

This life boat was built by the Augustin Normand yard in Le Havre in 1961 for the Société Centrale de Sauvetage des Naufragés and is stationed on Sein Island off Brest.

There are nearly sixty such stations managed by this company, from Gravelines in the north to St Jean de Luz in the south on the Atlantic as well as along all the French Mediterranean and Corsican coastline.

During the second world war, the company lost a lot of equipment, crafts, safe harbors, shoring equipment etc… Thirty new life boats ave been acquired since 1946 and the flotilla is regularly completed.

This company was established in 1864 and its first president was Admiral Rigault de Genouilly.
