Le Jean Bart
Oceangoing tugboat (1956)
Ocean going tugs appeared at the end of the nineteenth century to assist the large clippers loading coal
in the British harbors.
The more powerful tugs were also stationed close to dangerous passes from where they could dart to the rescue of imperilled shipping.
Among the more famous tugboats, one should mention the Iroise, Captain Malbert and the English Turmoil .The Jean Bart was launched at the yards of France for the Tug and Lifesaving Northern Company. Stationed in Boulogne sur Mer, the tug has operated with success very frequently.
